BISHOP BOWERS DIES AT 102

The death is announced of Most Rev Joseph Oliver Bowers, a retired Catholic Bishop of Accra. He was 102.

He died in the early hours of Tuesday in his official residence at Agormanya in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Before his demise he was one of the oldest living Bishops in the world.

The late prelate was Bishop of Accra between 1953 and 1971. He originally hails from Leeward Islands, West Indies. and started his missionary work in the then Gold Coast in 1941.

All the Catholic Bishops in Ghana, including the retired ones, visited him in Agormanya last Saturday November 3 and shared precious time with him. He in turn blessed the Bishops and told them that he would be going home sooner than later.

 

Requiem Mass for the departed Bishop will take place on Friday 9th November at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra.
